December 2026 has one national holiday and one collective leave day. Christmas falls on Friday, 25 December 2026, and the government set collective leave on Thursday, 24 December 2026. With Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 December, that makes a four-day break without any leave. The month has 21 working days on a five-day week, or 22 if your employer does not give collective leave. The last week of the year, Monday 28 to Thursday 31 December, holds only four working days before New Year 2027, which falls on a Friday. Four leave days that week give eleven days off from 24 December to 3 January 2027, one of the best trades of these two years. With only two leave days left, 30 and 31 December give five days off. Mother's Day on 22 December is marked but is not a holiday.

From Christmas to New Year
December 2026 is the last chance to use leftover annual leave. Christmas and collective leave already give four days off. Between Sunday 27 December and New Year on Friday 1 January there are only four working days. The plan that joins everything needs four leave days and gives eleven days off. A thriftier plan, leave on 31 December only, gives four days off from Thursday 31 December to Sunday 3 January.
