Indonesia has 18 national public holidays in 2027, set by the joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform numbered 1205 Tahun 2026, Nomor 3 Tahun 2026, Nomor 2 Tahun 2026, signed on 15 September 2026. That is one more than in 2026, because Isra Mi'raj falls twice in the same Gregorian year: on Tuesday, 5 January 2027 for 1448 AH and on Sunday, 26 December 2027 for 1449 AH. Of the 18 holidays, 11 fall on a weekday and 7 on a Saturday or Sunday, including Labour Day, Christmas and Chinese New Year. Eid al-Fitr 1448 is set for Wednesday, 10 March 2027 and the following day, Eid al-Adha for Monday, 17 May 2027. Add the 8 collective leave days and anyone on a five-day week gets the longest break from Saturday, 6 March 2027 to Monday, 15 March 2027, 10 days in a row without taking leave.

Why 2027 has 18 holidays

The Hijri calendar is about eleven days shorter than the Gregorian one. So roughly once every thirty-three years an Islamic holiday appears twice in one Gregorian year. In 2027 it is Isra Mi'raj's turn: 27 Rajab 1448 falls on Tuesday, 5 January 2027 and 27 Rajab 1449 on Sunday, 26 December 2027, the day after Christmas. The other Islamic holidays move about eleven days earlier than in 2026: Eid al-Fitr from 21 March to 10 March 2027, Eid al-Adha from 27 May to 17 May 2027.

Other religious holidays follow their own calendars. Chinese New Year 2578 falls on Saturday, 6 February 2027, Nyepi, the Saka New Year 1949, on Monday, 8 March 2027, and Vesak 2571 BE on Thursday, 20 May 2027. Good Friday and Ascension Day are counted from Easter, which is on Sunday, 28 March 2027.

Long weekends without taking leave

If collective leave is also a day off, the 2027 holidays give 6 long breaks without any leave at all. The longest is the Eid break, 10 days.

Common questions

How many public holidays does Indonesia have in 2027?

There are 18 national holidays under the 2027 joint decree, plus 8 collective leave days. That is one more than in 2026 because Isra Mi'raj is observed twice in the 2027 Gregorian year, in January and in December. Of all these holidays, 11 fall on a working day.

Which 2027 holidays fall on a weekend in Indonesia?

7 holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday in 2027, among them Chinese New Year, Labour Day on Saturday 1 May, Islamic New Year, the Prophet's Birthday, Christmas on Saturday 25 December and Isra Mi'raj on Sunday 26 December. Indonesia does not move a holiday that falls on a weekend to another day.

Can the 2027 holiday list still change?

Yes. The government has issued amending decrees before, for example in 2024. Islamic holiday dates also depend on the isbat session, even though the decree already names them. If an official change is made, the list on this page is updated and the update date at the bottom changes with it.

What is the legal basis for Indonesian public holidays?

The holidays themselves are set by presidential decree, most recently Presidential Decree 8 of 2024. Each year the exact dates and the collective leave days are fixed by a joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform, published a few months before the year begins.
